Glow In The Garden - The Restorative Benefits of Flowers

Recently, I got to spend a day on a flower farm and I was quickly reminded how fresh blooms have the power to light up a room and lift our spirits. Simply being among flowers can improve your mood, inspire creativity, and increase a sense of inner peace and calm. There are several studies that prove flowers can have a fundamental impact on our health and overall happiness.

Like yoga, flowers can support the wellbeing of the body and the mind. With the sun shining bright and all the flowers in bloom, summer is an ideal time to celebrate the healing powers of flowers.

Here are a few simple ways you can take advantage of the restorative benefits of flowers:

Buy yourself flowers! When was the last time you decided to buy yourself flowers? I started buying flowers for myself several years ago. It is one of my favorite healthy habits! The flowers don't have to be fancy. I often purchase bouquets at the local farmer’s market. Flowers make me feel good. Having fresh flowers helps me create a happy space that brightens up my home. A study out of the University of North Florida found that adding fresh flower bouquets to indoor environments results in a “statistically significant and meaningful reduction in stress.”

Take advantage of the restorative and uplifting scents of flowers with aromatherapy by diffusing essential oils in your home or workplace. Diffusing specific flower scents into the air can help improve focus and concentration, boost mood, reduce stress and even help you sleep better. Each flower offers its own unique healing properties and you can customize a scent for your individual needs.

Give flower gazing a try...yes, flower gazing! It seems fractal patterns found in nature such as flowers blooming are not only aesthetically pleasing to our eye, but they resonate within the brain. Calming and reducing the stress in the person who is observing the object.

Plant your own flower garden. Spending time in a quiet garden can help you regain inner balance and perspective. Focusing our awareness on the present moment while working in the soil and tending to the flowers allows us to notice all of the shapes, colors, textures and scents that surround us as we immerse ourselves in nature. Not a gardener? No problem, take a walk and look around at all the beautiful flowers in bloom. Slow down to stop and smell the flowers, you will be glad you did.

Embrace a mindful connection to nature this summer and explore the magic of flowers. Consider joining us for one of our Glow In The Garden summer floral wellness experiences and get inspired by the healing properties of flowers.
