Fall into Balance - Tea Time

As the seasons change...Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga encourages us to embrace wellness by cultivating a lifestyle that invites us to slow down and nourish ourselves through seasonal foods, simple acts of self-care and living in rhythm with nature. Create your own afternoon tea time ritual as a gesture of self-care. This warming practice will help carry feelings of inner peace and wellbeing into the rest of your day...a perfect mid-day boost.


Even people who don't regularly drink tea know the positive effects tea offers when it comes to boosting one's immunity. It's why most of us opt for a piping hot cup of tea when we're feeling under the weather. Fruits, roots, herbs and spices are an important part of an Ayurveda diet encouraging us to find balance and harmony in the body by adapting to seasonal changes through seasonal foods, spices, herbs, lifestyle and yoga.


There are many types of teas, each with its own benefits. Ayurveda encourages herbal teas, as they have a blend of different ingredients, each having its own properties and working together to offer relaxation, enhanced immunity, detoxification and healing qualities that can be very calming for the body. As we transition into fall, use this time to slow down and to practice self-care with a warming cup of tea.


One of my favorite fall rituals is practicing yoga outdoors in the cooler temps, then enjoying a nice, hot cup of tea. This simple routine helps me stay connected with the season and practice mindfulness.


Ginger & Turmeric Tea


Ginger Turmeric Tea is both delicious and calming. It only takes minutes to make and is bursting with anti-inflammatory and healing properties—perfect for the cool fall days ahead.


Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water

  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, grated – a natural anti-inflammatory

  • 1 tsp ground turmeric or 1-inch piece of fresh turmeric – high in antioxidants

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice – a great source of vitamin C

  • 1 stick cinnamon – an anti-inflammatory spice loaded with antioxidants

  • 1 tbsp honey (optional) – a natural antibacterial, eases sore throats and coughs

  • A pinch of black pepper – enhances turmeric absorption


Instructions:

  1. Boil the water and add the turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper.

  2. Let it simmer for 10 minutes.

  3. Strain the tea, then stir in the honey and lemon juice.

  4. Enjoy the warmth and health benefits!


As we move into fall, take the time to create small habits and daily rituals that invite us to slow down, inspire mindfulness, and help us appreciate being in the moment. Make time for tea—a simple yet powerful practice that nurtures your body and mind.
