What Summer Reminds Us About Living Well

There's something about summer that feels different.
The days seem a little longer. We linger over morning coffee, take evening walks, spend more time outdoors, and somehow find ourselves noticing the simple things we often miss the rest of the year.
It made me wonder...
What if the reason summer feels so good isn't simply the sunshine?
I don't think it's just the sunshine.
I think it's the way we're living.
Without even realizing it, summer gently brings us back to what matters most. We spend more time outdoors. We move because it feels good. We gather with family and friends. We slow down enough to enjoy a meal outside, watch a sunset, or simply pause for a deep breath.
We're not trying to create wellness.
We're simply living it.
That's one of the reasons yoga has remained such an important part of my life.
Yoga isn't something separate from life. It's a practice that helps us experience life more fully. It reminds us to pause, notice our breath, move with intention, and reconnect with ourselves. The hour we spend on the mat often changes the hours that follow.
One of my favorite moments as a teacher is watching what happens at the end of class. Faces soften. Shoulders relax. People stand a little taller. They often smile and say, "I didn't realize how much I needed that."
I understand exactly what they mean.
Life hasn't changed during that hour, but something inside us has. We leave feeling a little lighter, a little more present, and better prepared for whatever comes next.
As August unfolds and life begins to pick up again, my hope is that we don't leave everything we love about summer behind. Keep taking the walk. Spend time outdoors. Watch the sunset. Meet a friend for coffee. Take a deep breath before rushing to the next thing.
Carry a little of summer's slower pace with you.
Wellness doesn't have to be complicated. More often than not, it's found in the simple moments we choose to notice each day.
Maybe that's the greatest gift summer gives us—a reminder of how good life can feel when we slow down enough to truly live it.
